Delving Into The Causes Of Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder that deprives you of sleep. The causes of insomnia are numerous and can range from the mundane to the alarming. However, there are basically two types of insomnia: short term and long term insomnia, or  acute and chronic insomnia, respectively. The causes of insomnia for the short term or acute insomnia are generally not as serious as those of the chronic or long term insomnia.

The causes of insomnia worldwide are basically the same. There are three major causes of insomnia: psychological causes, physical causes and outside factors and events. These three main causes of insomnia are then divided into other categories, all of which contribute to what is called insomnia.

Psychological of Insomnia 

These are probably the most abundant causes of this sleep disorder in the world. Depression, anxiety, stress and many other psychological issues can contribute to insomnia. Our mind is a complex organ that works even when we are tired or asleep. The psychological causes of insomnia are usually the more difficult to overcome since it takes strong will power to conquer psychological issues.

Physical Causes Of Insomnia

The physical causes of insomnia tend to focus on medical conditions. The lack of melatonin that occurs as we get older is one of the causes of insomnia in people. For some women, and sometimes even men, a hormonal imbalance can be the cause of insomnia.

Outside Factors And Events

These causes of insomnia are factors that occur outside of one’s body and mind. It could be jet lag, overtime at work, work shift changes, excessive intake of alcohol or caffeine and many others. Other causes of insomnia can include night neighborhood disturbances or even slight changes in the environment of your bedroom.

The many different causes of insomnia do not affect people in the same way, unless the causes are more focused on underlying medical conditions. In cases of long term of chronic insomnia, the factors may affect people the same way as opposed to those of acute or short term insomnia.
