Talk to Your Doctor Before You Stop HRT

If you have been on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for a while, and you have decided that you want to know how to stop HRT, first know that you should not stop abruptly. If you stop HRT suddenly, your body will go through withdrawal – something you should avoid at all costs.
Realize that during the time you have been on hormone therapy, the levels of hormones in your body have significantly been raised. So if you were to stop HRT all at once, the hormone levels in your body would also drop all at once and have an adverse effect on you.
Therefore, if you want to stop HRT, you are going to have to make sure that you stop gradually. Work with your doctor, and let him or her know that you want to stop HRT. Your doctor will slowly but surely start to lessen the amounts of hormones that you are given.
It typically will take about a month or two for you to be able to wean yourself off the hormone therapy. Although this may take time, it is certainly better than doing it “cold turkey” and having to deal with the withdrawal factor.
Your plan to stop HRT may be the best thing that you ever do, if it is just not providing you with the type of results that you are looking for.
After You Stop
Once you stop HRT, you are probably going to want to find a way to deal with your menopausal symptoms. Maybe you should try a more natural approach if the hormone therapy did not really agree with you. There are some herbal remedies that you may want to consider that have proven to be very effective.
For most people going through menopause, it takes a bit of trial and error before they are able to find something that works for them. This can be a trying time, but menopause won’t last forever.
