Severe chronic insomnia is actually a prolonged case of chronic insomnia. Insomnia is a sleep disorder that occurs to many people. Insomniacs often have difficulty getting to sleep and have difficulty sleeping through the night as well. Severe chronic insomnia is called severe because of the length of time that the insomnia occurs to a certain individual. While chronic insomnia occurs about three nights a week for more than a month, severe chronic insomnia may occur in an individual for at least five nights in a week and for weeks on end. It is the intensity of the insomnia that classifies the disorder as severe chronic insomnia.
Symptoms Of Severe Chronic Insomnia
The symptoms of most types of insomnia are highly similar. This sleep disorder is characterized by lack of sleep, inability to sleep through the night, irritability and lethargy during the day, a clear lack of concentration and sluggish mental functions. Severe chronic insomnia may have more severe symptoms but still the same ones. The degree of severity may be dependent on how sleep deprived the person is.
In some cases, the person may actually find time to nap during the day to take back the loss of sleep he or she experienced during the night. This is another symptom of insomnia, no matter what type it may be. The nap would be shorter and the sleep would still be hard to come by especially the severe chronic insomnia kind. Some people also find themselves staring into space with blank minds and just literally not thinking of anything at all but just absorbing how tired they are. These are dangerous times and people should try to resolve their disorder as soon as possible.
Treating Severe Chronic Insomnia
Treating insomnia varies depending on how severe it is. Acute insomnia or short term insomnia may not even need treatment as this type resolves itself as soon as the stress or pressure that causes it is eliminated. As for severe chronic insomnia, some delving into the causes of this disorder is necessary to initiate any form of insomnia cure. In some cases, the individual may need some medication combined with psychiatric help. Some individuals with severe chronic insomnia also need to be treated for other illnesses and conditions before their sleep disorder may be resolved.
Severe chronic insomnia is disorder that should be feared. There is treatment for this disorder and individuals with this disorder should not lose sleep over the fact that they have it.
